Deconstruction Workshop – Exploring the potential for remanufacturing
SIR co-hosted a Deconstruction workshop with Zero Waste Scotland and Construction Scotland – Innovation Centre to explore the potential that exists in Scotland to drive forward the circular economy through deconstruction of buildings.
Drawing on the expertise of the industry and public sector attendees, we were successful in mapping out the opportunities for remanufacturing and reusing materials in buildings, detailing the potential barriers and actions to overcome these.
The workshop also facilitated a discussion on the future of the circular economy within construction and the steps needed to ensure buildings are designed and built with reuse and remanufacture in mind.
It is hoped that this workshop will lead to the creation of a working group to drive forward progress towards deconstruction over demolition within construction with the identification of potential research projects and case study ideas to promote this.
Thanks to Brand-Rex for welcoming us and allowing us to use their state of the art facilities.
