Having Simone work with us through the Scottish Institute for Remanufacturing allowed me to develop the product we have called Machine Health Assessment System (M-HAS) . This collects sensor and SCADA data from wind turbines and determines there efficiency in performance and remaining useful life of critical parts such as the gearbox, generator, blades and main bearings. We started the project from scratch building electronic hardware and developing software. Simone and I worked from concept to final design and also developed a website to host and display the data.
The use of the turbine mock up at Strathclyde was also very valuable to debug the system before it went on actual turbines and we are now successfully monitoring hundreds of turbines throughout the UK and Ireland.
