Remanufacturing stars awarded for innovative work with Costa Express

The Scottish engineering and manufacturing community came together in Glasgow at the 2nd Annual Industry Awards ceremony, hosted by the Centre for Engineering, Education and Development (CeeD) on 20th February 2020.

The inaugural Award for Remanufacturing, sponsored by The Scottish Institute for Remanufacturing (SIR), was presented by Technical Director Dr Winnie Ijomah to winners WEEE Scotland Ltd.  The team beat Renewable Parts Ltd and Recycle Scotland, for their outstanding work that has enabled industrial Costa Express machines to provide a more sustainable service within the UK.

The WEEE Scotland team used their expertise to remanufacture faulty components in Costa Express machines, ensuring a more sustainable practice is adopted in their service life.   SIR’s Knowledge Exchange Fellow, Paul Cantwell, accompanied Winnie on the night which was hosted at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel.  Paul said: ‘We were delighted to create and sponsor this important award for the 2nd CeeD Awards.  WEEE Scotland’s win was well deserved and demonstrates the fundamental role remanufacturing plays as part of the solution to work towards a sustainable future. Scotland has a strong foot print in sustainable manufacturing that we don’t recognise enough and it presents a good building block to work towards the Net-Zero Target
